TutorBridge
Problem Description
Academic challenges are common for students at many educational institutions. While study centers and office hours are provided by universities, these facilities might have drawbacks such as a limited number of tutors and lengthy wait times, particularly when students are only allowed to ask one question at a time. As a result, some students need more extensive help and actively seek tutors, and they are frequently willing to pay for extra assistance. Additionally, there are also students and individuals who are qualified to work as instructors because they excel in a certain field.
The absence of a centralized and effective platform for matching students with skilled instructors is one information technology issue that is frequently left neglected. While there are already several websites and apps that help students and tutors match up, many of them have conservative usability and limited features, such as lack of in-person meeting options and language options for students that are more comfortable learning in other languages.
After examining the usability of existing apps like Superprof, we have identified an area for improvement in our own app. Superprof offers a clean and smooth user experience for users to find tutors, and users can also find the tutors they want really easily by filtering by subject and location. However, we want to make our app more focused for students, allowing them to filter based on their respectives institutions, such as universities, as well as the courses offered in their institutions.
Our Solution
Our proposed solution is a web application that serves as a platform for students to connect, and to bridge the gap between students in need of academic assistance and tutors looking for more exposure. Students will be able to find the most suitable tutor based on their preferences. They may also sign up as tutors themselves and help others gain new knowledge while also making some extra cash. In order to ensure representation and diversity among its teaching pool, the app will promote inclusivity by actively seeking out tutors from underrepresented groups and promoting their engagement in an attempt to close educational gaps and encourage academic success by linking users with skilled instructors who can handle their unique needs. Students whose first language might not be the main language of instruction may benefit from the app's multilingual capabilities. This can improve the app's usability and help tutors and students from various linguistic backgrounds communicate effectively.
The app would give students a quick and easy way to get in touch with tutors who can give them individualized support, direction, and mentorship. They would have the freedom to arrange tutoring sessions around their schedules and get individualized support catered to their particular learning needs. On the other hand, tutors would gain from greater exposure to a wider student base and visibility. We want to emphasize the ability for students to find the most suitable by filtering based on their institutions, as well as courses offered in their respective institutions. By connecting individuals within the same university, tutors can leverage their familiarity with the institution's courses and curriculum, which will greatly benefit students seeking academic support within their specific university context. This enhancement will also lead to other potential programs such as research mentorship, which often need in-person meetings and interactions.
For users not specifically looking to find paid tutoring services, or become tutors themselves, the app also provides a space for them to connect with other users, gain new insights through forums, and give back to the community through the open chat rooms. They can communicate with one another, have discussions, or ask questions on any topic. These forums can also then be categorized with relevant tags to make it easier for other users to search for their topics of interest.
